Justice : Elie Kamano en liberté, en attendant le verdict du tribunal
1 min read
On July 7, artist and politician Elie Kamano will learn his fate at the Kaloum Court of First Instance. Until then, he returned home following Wednesday’s hearing, during which the public prosecutor requested a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 40 million Guinean francs.
Salifou Béavogui, the defendant’s lawyer, hopes the court will take his plea into account. He requested his client’s outright acquittal for lack of evidence. For now, the lawyer has secured an initial victory. Deeply disappointed last week when he saw his client arrested in court and taken to prison, the lawyer succeeded today in having him released. Demonstrating that his client’s pretrial detention was illegal, the “lawyer for difficult cases” obtained his release. It now remains to be seen whether the court’s decision, expected on July 7, will uphold his freedom.
It should be recalled that Elie Kamano is being prosecuted for “insults and defamation through a computer system” to the detriment of the former president of the Guinean Football Federation, Salifou Camara alias “Super V”.
